The key requirement for obtaining a UK-PHMES CSCS card is current knowledge and understanding of Health & Safety requirements on construction sites. This is confirmed in one of three ways:

OPTION 1: NVQ/SVQ Exemption

You have completed an appropriate level 2 or level 3 NVQ/SVQ less than two years before applying for a card.

Cards issued under this NVQ/SVQ exemption will be valid for a maximum of 2 years from the date of the NVQ Certificate.

Note: City & Guilds 6129 Certificate in Basic Plumbing Studies or other equivalent Technical Certificates are not acceptable for an exemption.

OPTION 2: Other Exemptions

You have completed any of the following assessments/courses and your certificate is current (within the last 2 years):

• Client Contractors National Safety Group (CCNSG) two-day Passport to Safety Course
• National Examination Board of Occupational Safety and Health (NEBOSH) Construction Certificate
• IOSH Working Safely – Construction related. (Cards issued with a current IOSH certificate will be valid for three years from the pass date)
• FAS Safe Pass
• Safety Pass Alliance

Cards issued will normally be valid for five years from the course pass certificate date unless otherwise stated..

OPTION 3: Health & Safety Test

You have passed a multiple choice Health & Safety awareness test within the last 2 years.

Cards issued will normally be valid for five years from your Health & Safety Test pass date.

The current cost of a Health & Safety test is £17.50.
